Producer Success Story: UPS – My Choice

Posted by Brendan Codey on May 22nd, 2012. Categories: Community Highlights, Our News | Comments Off

Back in January, our UPS assignment set the Poptent all-time Number of Purchased Videos and Community Payout records for one assignment. Though there was only one guaranteed purchase, UPS ended up purchasing 12 spots due to the extensive number of high quality spots you delivered!

The brand recently initiated their UPS My Choice campaign featuring the Poptent videos and we want to update you with some great news. At facebook.com/ups, four of the purchased videos are featured in the UPS My Choice section/tab (bitly link here: http://on.fb.me/J2NzZn), playing in random rotation until Tuesday, June 19th, 2012. Each of these videos is eligible for a $5,000 bonus, which will be awarded to the video deemed the “most popular” during the viewing period. The four Poptent producers are 323 Media, Deep End Films, RezFx, and Jared Hedges. Super stoked for them – we are extremely proud of our community’s involvement in such a huge push for such a well respected brand!

The “most popular” video will be determined based on likes, views, shares and unique positive comments either on the UPS My Choice tab or in featured wall posts during the viewing period (as measured by UPS). Positive interactions by UPS employees on its employee site will also be a factor in determining the most popular… So get ready to tap into your social networks.

Each weekend during the promotion, one video will be spotlighted on the UPS Facebook page in a wall post. Activity on the video during it’s respective weekend as a UPS Wall post – i.e. outside of the tab that will always contain all 4 videos – will only be counted Saturday through Tuesday of that week, to ensure equal exposure and fairness for all. Here’s the posting schedule:

• Monday, May 21, 2012 3PM EST – Poptent Announcement Post
• Saturday, May 26, 2012 10AM EST – Make the Box Wait
• Saturday, June 2, 2012 10AM EST – Waiting on a Package
• Saturday, June 9, 2012 10AM EST – Ooga Booga
• Saturday, June 16, 2012 10AM EST – The UPS My Choice Rap

We’ll keep you posted during the next 30 days. Poptent is super proud of our community’s work for UPS. Keep up the great work everyone! Big thanks to UPS for including us in such a huge promotional push as well.

Walgreens received 30 amazing submissions and they could not have been more pleased with the results. Poptent producers carleymostar and Mike Bernstein both had spots purchased by the brand for $10,000.

Here’s where it gets really sweet! Mike Bernstein’s “The Pick Up” is up for a Telly Award, the premier award honoring the finest film and video productions, groundbreaking web commercials, videos and film and commercials. Walgreens is asking you to help Mike out by voting for his spot right HERE.

Mischievious Studios, Anthony Bui Create Intel Ultrabook Videos for Poptent Productions

Posted by Mark Schoneveld on February 1st, 2012. Categories: Community Highlights, Poptent Productions, Purchased Videos | Comments Off

As promised, we’ve been extremely hard at work providing direct-paying and risk-free production opportunities to our talented community. Those wheels are rolling faster and faster! Here, you’ll see our client Intel get some super fun content produced by a couple of our award-winning directors, Anthony Bui – known to Poptenters as ej6inmiami – and Christiano Covino + Mischievious Studios through our new Poptent Productions studio. Have a look at the great videos they created for and from the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month!

Intel partnered with Poptent Productions to bring a few Los Angeles-based film-makers to CES this year with one challenge in mind: capture and film a unique story about the benefits of Ultrabook devices. They were armed only with background on Ultrabook devices and an ASUS UX31 Ultrabook. Then they were given 5 days to independently develop their own videos, and they all delivered in bringing new ideas, thinking and perspectives to the table. Watch more on Channel Intel on YouTube.

Our Dannon Ad Feat. John Stamos to Air on Super Bowl!

Dannon OIKOS

We’re elated that we are going to see the very first commercial created by Poptent producers on the biggest ad stage in the world with John Stamos and the Dannon team for their OIKOS yogurt. The campaign’s been mentioned in the New York Times already, and while we can’t share the whole story quiet yet (everyone loves surprises!), here’s a clip from the official press release about the talented creators who produced the spot:

Director Remy Neymarc (21) and his brother, Andrew (23), submitted a concept that was selected from the best of the best of a privately crowdsourced Poptent community submission process in response to Dannon’s creative brief posted via the Poptent.net community in mid-2011. Under Poptent’s Invite Assignments process, Dannon worked directly with Poptent to hand-select a short-list of videographers, including Remy, from Poptent’s social network based on the brand’s specific requirements and skills of the videographers.

Remy and Andrew Neymarc both grew up in the suburbs of Paris, specifically, Saint-Maur-des-Fosses. Remy, who directed the ad, graduated high school in 2008 and is expected to earn his degree from Lewis & Clark College in 2012 in Computer Science. Remy began working as a professional photographer at age 17 and quickly transitioned to filmmaking with his brother, Andrew, to pursue their strong passion for storytelling. The two brothers are self-taught, have no formal film education and work with a mentality that nothing is impossible. As a team, Andrew and Remy write, direct, shoot and edit everything themselves. They also compose the music when possible. Although they do everything together, Remy specializes in directing and cinematography, while Andrew specializes in writing and producing. In 2011, Andrew and Remy founded their production company, Neymarc Visuals. They work independently for companies and also competitively through crowdsourcing companies such as Poptent.

“Working with Dannon on the Dannon Oikos commercial has been a fantastic experience,” said Remy Neymarc. “I’m honored to have the opportunity for my work to be represented during TV’s single most watched event. It was a thrill to be selected via Poptent to work with a globally respected brand like Dannon.”

As you’re sitting down getting ready for the final BCS Bowl Game (GO “fill in your team here”!), keep an eye out for the Dell Musician commercial for their fabulous XPS14z Dell laptop. It’s a commercial produced by Poptent producer Sam Akina from Seattle, Washington. Initially purchased as part of a pitch-based invite assignment, Sam will ultimately be producing 4 spots for Dell through Poptent Productions, where select producers work directly with one of our awesome brands. The video has been running on nearly all of the BCS Bowl games and will be showcased on the final college football game of the year, the BCS Championship Bowl on January 9th featuring the Tigers of LSU against the Crimson Tide of Alabama. Game time is 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Huge September for Video Purchases!

Posted by edscotti on October 7th, 2011. Categories: Community Highlights | Comments Off

September marked Poptent’s biggest month to date in terms of purchased videos. A total of 42 videos were purchased, 24 of which were in addition to the guaranteed minimum purchase. That’s over $180,000 paid out for extra video purchases alone. These eye-popping statistics are a direct result of the outstanding efforts from the Poptent community. The Poptent staff is continually impressed by the superb creative output from our community and wanted to make you aware of just how much all your hard work has been paying off!

Not only is this a testament to the great work produced by our community, but it’s truly serving as a springboard in helping us cultivate new brand relationships while strengthening existing ones. This, in turn, gives us the opportunity to continue to serve up new, innovative projects for some of the most exciting brands in the world! Congratulations again to all the talented producers who had their work purchased in September! Keep going. We’ll have many more record breaking months and, with your help of course, look forward to surpassing these numbers again and again in the future!

To celebrate, why not give PaperTwinProductions’ final version of their purchased Heely’s spot a gander! What a great job they did, right?

Creator Spotlight: Dane Boedigheimer

Posted by Mark Schoneveld on January 19th, 2009. Categories: Community Highlights | 3 Comments »

Dane Boedigheimer (aka daneboe) has been one of the most creative and active members of Poptent since, well, before XLNTads even launched the Poptent Network! He’s always bringing fresh and interesting takes on our assignments. Dane’s style is always chalk full of fantastic animation. We recently sat down for an interview.

How did you get into making videos?
My perents got a 8mm camcorder for Christmas when I was 12. I started playing around with it and instantly fell in love with it. Soon I was spending entire days making short videos with my younger brother. It all just blossomed from there. I remember sitting in my room for hours editing my videos with two VCRs. It was painstaking, but I loved it. There was something magical about making stories come to life right in front of my eyes, no matter how crappy those stories were!

XLNTads: Where do you get your inspiration from?
Everything! Well, mabe not everything…but I’ve been inspired by a whole range of things. It all depends. I get inspired by great movies, crappy movies, stories that people tell me, conversations I have, and things that happen in real life. Even though I have a tendency to create fantastical situations in my videos, they are all grounded in some story or aspect from real life. It just goes to show, real life can be more amazing than anything we could possibly imagine.

What do you like about making commercials?
Commercials are great for a number of reasons. With most, they allow you to be really creative. They also provide a format for practicing your craft, and they actually help you connect with other people in the video industry. Personally, one of my favorite aspects is that commercial projects are usually short. I love working with short formats, so commercials are perfect in that way. Plus, your getting paid to do something you love…how fantastic is that?

Any great resources that the Poptent Community should know about?
I used soundsnap.com for free sound effects religiously, but they recently began charging users for downlading. They are still affordable though, and never let me down. Detonationfilms.com is great for all kinds of free stock footage. SXC.hu is my favorite site for free photos and clip art.

Tell me a funny story that happened while you were on a shoot…
Well, it isn’t just one shoot, but I don’t know how many times I’ve had run-ins with police while shooting videos. I’ve been pulled over for speeding, kicked out of a mall, banished from numerous parking lots, reprimanded for throwing objects off a bridge, fined for shooing fireworks in city limits…the list goes on and on. I’m starting to think the cops have my apartment tapped and know whenever I’m going to be shooting a video!
