Creator Feature: Mike Bernstein & Mu Sun

Another week another creator visit at Poptent. This time, we welcomed writer/directors Mike Bernstein and Mu Sun. These gentlemen are collaborating on an upcoming production and were here for pre-production purposes scouting a location and doing a bit of casting. We’ll have more photos to share as we follow along with these guys during their production next week!

Poptent Creators Willa119 Stop By Poptent For a Visit

Earlier this week, Poptent creators Willa119, consisting of writer/director Erik Lu and producer Willa Yeh, stopped by Poptent for a friendly visit. It’s always nice when creators come and meet the people that interact with them on a daily basis. Community managers Brendan Codey and Dan Svizeny, and more recently  Bianca DiMaio, literally talk to these creators every single day.

Speaking with both Lu and Yeh, we talked about their quick rise within Poptent, some inspiration behind their shoots, and their plans for their feature length film on behalf of their company, Descendent Films. All in all, we think they learned that we’re real people over here at Poptent, and maybe we’re even slightly cool in a nerdy, internet kind of way.

So, creators, what are you waiting for? Schedule your visit to Poptent now and we’ll take some sweet pics.

PS Watch Willa119′s first purchased spot for Garnier Fructis. They’ve since been purchased twice and are now finalists in another assignment right now!

Poptent Buttons

"Peace," featured on Jimmy Brown. Photo from creator RezFX Productions:

Earlier today, creators RezFX Productions tweeted over a photo of the “Peace,” button, you know, the buttons that Poptent is now awarding creators on a weekly basis. In case you missed the video we released a few weeks back, watch it below to find out more about these so called buttons, and how you can earn one yourself. REMEMBER, if you are so graciously awarded, take a photo of the button on yourself, or your buds, and upload it to your facebook or twitter. Mention us and we’ll take note and put your photo up on our blog.

We’ve Paid Filmmakers $5,000,000, Slater’s Garage Nabs Milestone

Posted by Mark Schoneveld on June 13th, 2012.

Poptent has paid $5 million to video producers

Boy, we can hardly believe it ourselves. We’ve just crossed an incredible milestone, one which makes us especially proud of our talented filmmaker community. We have now paid over $5 million to creators in the Poptent community! Eye-popping, right?

Poptent started with the simple idea that independent videographers were capable of making commercial videos worthy of inclusion in the marketing and advertising campaigns of Fortune 500 companies. If only they had the access, they’d shine. So we’ve spent the last five years connecting indie filmmakers with the world’s biggest brands, and it’s definitely starting to pay off for those creative talents world wide in a big way.

This success belongs one hundred and ten percent to the 50,000 indie video producers who comprise our amazing community. Thank you all for helping us reach this milestone by creating the stunning, hilarious and spot-on videos that brands love year after year.

What makes this announcement even more exciting is that the Poptent producer who received the five millionth dollar has been with us from the very beginning. Brett Slater is a videographer, animator, writer, and media producer who has been working on Poptent assignments for more than five years.

“I was part of what was XLNTads’ very first creator advisory board back in 2007, literally the beginning for Poptent,” Slater says. “I got an email explaining the concept, it seemed interesting and the rest is history.”

Slater’s most recent purchase – the one that pushed Poptent over the $5 million mark – was an excellent animated piece for Montreal-based Olivieri Pasta. After the latest video Slater’s sold to Poptent a client (his second), he’s got some advice for the Poptent community.

“What I’ve learned is to make your videos look different. The client is trying to find a unique voice in their marketplace, and you should use your unique voice to help them stand out.”

He says his favorite thing about being a part of the Poptent community is the people, whether Poptent’s community managers or the numerous professional contacts he’s made during the past five years.

Thanks, Brett! Here’s to your continued success, and to the next $5 million! If you’re ready to help us reach the next big milestone and earn some of that pie for yourself, accept one of our current commercial assignments. We can’t wait to see your talent shine like Brett’s.

Poptent Produced Eucerin Spot Featured on National TV!

Posted by Brendan Codey on June 12th, 2012.

Eucerin, the trusted dermatologist- and pharmacist-recommended skincare brand, recently ran an open public assignment and a private invite assignment with Poptent. The assignments resulted in the brand purchasing two dynamic spots touting the benefits of their latest product innovation – Professional Repair and Smoothing Repair. The spots were created by Ben Renschen and Rodney Wilson, respectively, and both were the first purchases for each creator. After a few quick minor edits, Wilson’s spot went straight to television, where it was featured during the prime afternoon slot of the Dr. Oz show where Eucerin shared tips on the importance of skin care year-round as well as the science behind the Repair line. Both spots are now featured on the brand’s YouTube page, so be sure to check them out!

Poptent’s Southern Comfort Work Featured in NYTimes

Posted by Mark Schoneveld on June 7th, 2012.

Congratulations to Poptent producers RezFX first for having their “Lingo Cops” series purchased by Southern Comfort, running on TV during the NBA Playoffs, and now being featured prominently in this piece on the New York Times!

The Untraditional Origins of a New Southern Comfort Ad

At first glance, there would seem to be little in common between Southern Comfort liqueur and Dannon Oikos Greek yogurt. But Southern Comfort is joining Dannon Oikos in running commercials created through a crowd-sourcing initiative rather than by a traditional advertising agency.

The Southern Comfort commercial began running this week on television as well as on the brand’s Facebook fan page. The spot was developed through Poptent, a company that specializes in crowd-sourcing ads for major marketers.

Rather than use traditional models, like teaming up a copywriter and an art director at an advertising agency, crowd-sourcing comes up with ad concepts in collaborative fashion via the Internet.

Producer Success Story: UPS – My Choice

Posted by Brendan Codey on May 22nd, 2012.

Back in January, our UPS assignment set the Poptent all-time Number of Purchased Videos and Community Payout records for one assignment. Though there was only one guaranteed purchase, UPS ended up purchasing 12 spots due to the extensive number of high quality spots you delivered!

The brand recently initiated their UPS My Choice campaign featuring the Poptent videos and we want to update you with some great news. At facebook.com/ups, four of the purchased videos are featured in the UPS My Choice section/tab (bitly link here: http://on.fb.me/J2NzZn), playing in random rotation until Tuesday, June 19th, 2012. Each of these videos is eligible for a $5,000 bonus, which will be awarded to the video deemed the “most popular” during the viewing period. The four Poptent producers are 323 Media, Deep End Films, RezFx, and Jared Hedges. Super stoked for them – we are extremely proud of our community’s involvement in such a huge push for such a well respected brand!

The “most popular” video will be determined based on likes, views, shares and unique positive comments either on the UPS My Choice tab or in featured wall posts during the viewing period (as measured by UPS). Positive interactions by UPS employees on its employee site will also be a factor in determining the most popular… So get ready to tap into your social networks.

Each weekend during the promotion, one video will be spotlighted on the UPS Facebook page in a wall post. Activity on the video during it’s respective weekend as a UPS Wall post – i.e. outside of the tab that will always contain all 4 videos – will only be counted Saturday through Tuesday of that week, to ensure equal exposure and fairness for all. Here’s the posting schedule:

• Monday, May 21, 2012 3PM EST – Poptent Announcement Post
• Saturday, May 26, 2012 10AM EST – Make the Box Wait
• Saturday, June 2, 2012 10AM EST – Waiting on a Package
• Saturday, June 9, 2012 10AM EST – Ooga Booga
• Saturday, June 16, 2012 10AM EST – The UPS My Choice Rap

We’ll keep you posted during the next 30 days. Poptent is super proud of our community’s work for UPS. Keep up the great work everyone! Big thanks to UPS for including us in such a huge promotional push as well.
