Born in Pereira, Colombia in 1977. She is film maker, director of photography and lightning designer. Graduated in Film and Photography at the Unitec University in Bogotá moved to Buenos Aires where she studied Lightning Design for Shows at the National Art University Institute “IUNA”. Since 2001 she worked in films and documentaries with Albertina Carri, Andrés de Negri, Maria Valencia, Lina Dorado and Klych López. She has made music video clips for bands as Miranda, Leo García, Pernet and the Carivians Ravers and Viettato. In advertisement she worked for “Clarín”, “Banco Macro”, “Veritas” and “Rentas Pcia de Buenos Aires”. Since 2006 she has worked with the dance company “La Compañía” directed by Mariana Bellotto, as the film maker and light designer for the pieces “Sudoeste”, “Interior Francés”, “El último grito de la moda”, “Slogans”, “Bondage & Suprabond” and “Habitación 361”. She also collaborated as film maker in the work of the visual artist Alicia Herrero in the video pieces “My Booty”, “Alice and Alice”, “Links” and in the video productions for “Magazine in Situ”. Also has worked as lightning designer for music concerts and theatre pieces. In 2007-2008 was the film maker for the cultural TV program “Huellas Arte Argentino” produced by Canal Encuentro, national TV channel of science, art and technology. She has worked in Bogotá, Buenos Aires and New York. Today, she is one of the film makers of Gaia Entretainment New York and continue developing her own projects.
In January 2009 Jasmin Ihrac, Juliana Piquero and Catalina Fernandez founded the performance company “fanni fraktal”; currently working on the project “potential enemies”, which premier is planned in the “Universität der Kunst” in November 2009. In another hand, she is invited to work with Nikola Duric on the project “Gescheiterte Revolutionen” in July 2009; with Kanak Attack on the project “The Walking Cube”, which premier is planned in “Crossing Munich” in September 2009; with the performance company “Showcase Production” for the piece “Die Wiederträufer” which premier is planned in 2010: January in Theater Hebbel-am-Ufer/Berlin, April in Donaufestival in Krems, and Juni in Theater Pumpenhaus in Münster . Today, she develops her own project “Portraits Reports – The Berliner Album”.
Currently, Catalina Fernandez is invited to work in “Academia Jangada” as video artist for future productions like “Let´s go to no go”; with Avanzado Film Berlin” as Co-Autor for the production “Meremberg”, as camerawoman for the future documentary film about two boxers in Central America, and as director for her own documentary film “Badsalzuflen” (AT). With Boris Laaser she is working as camerawoman and director´s assistant in the film “Ramallah mon amour”; both together producing “Blind”, a documentary film about blindness, and working in the concept of “Märchendeutchland”, future production.
