Originally from Hanover, New Hampshire, Matthew was honored to receive the state’s Best Performance Award from the New Hampshire Educational Theater Guild twice in a row (2001 and 2002). His background in theater and acting provides a distinct edge to his directing.
He approaches characters from an actor’s perspective, relying on his personal stage experience when directing actors such as Anthony Ray Parker (The Matrix, The Frighteners). His short films The Appointment, Confessions of a Peepshow Junkie, and Beyond the Window typically begin with a slender, everyday premise that he explores in meticulous but economical detail, looking for the one image or line of dialogue that will reveal the most about his characters.
Confessions of a Peepshow Junkie was a festival finalist in Kevin Spacey’s 2006 3rd Triggerstreet Online Film Festival.
Beyond the Window has played in the New England Film & Video Festival, LA Shorts Fest, Treasure Coast International, and the Park City Film Music Festival. It was nominated for Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Picture during the 2007 Cecil B. DeMille awards at Chapman University. Its score won a Silver Medal for Excellence at the Park City Film Music Festival.
Matthew has recently worked with Warner Bros. as part of an experimental think tank to produce online content for the studio. He was selected among an extremely competitive group to be one of 12 recent graduates admitted into the program. Throughout 2007 and 2008 he worked on over 35 individual shorts in variety of roles including directing, editing, and production management.
In the fall of 2008, Matthew’s travel web series “Daytripper” was given the greenlight to produce 21 episodes in five cities (New York, Boston, Austin, San Francisco, and Los Angeles) across the United States. Matthew saw the project from conception to final delivery.
Never wasting a moment, Matthew has also helped develop projects outside the WB Creative Lab. During the summer of 2008, he was an associate producer and guest director for the season finale of “Ben and Burman” a 12 episode web series whose creators recently signed with Endeavor to be packaged into a television show with exec producer Gary Randall (Saving Grace).
In the Fall of 2008, he co-directed and produced his first TV pilot “Bros” with Sean Barney, longtime friend and creative collaborator.
He is currently in pre-production on a number of spec commercials.
Sooner or later, he’ll get around to directing Danny and the Deep Blue Sea at a local Los Angeles theater.

"I'm a vegetarian, yet I spent pretty much my entire weekend saying, "I cut my own meat! HRAAAAAAAA!". I can't get it out of my head. Solid delivery, and the music really drives it home. Great work!"

"Everyone needs a little Ben Giroux in their lives now and again. I'll tell you this, I don't remember those monster biceps when he was going toe-to-toe with Big Foot. "I cut my own meat" is now a classic."
